I was born nearby in Pasadena, California, but I lived in Memphis, Tennessee most of my life. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Memphis, where I studied English with a concentration in English as a Second Language and also received a minor in German Language studies. I learned a lot about literature and literacy through my coursework. Since I never want to stop learning, I am continuing my education at Loyola Marymount University.
Although I learned a lot at my university, I learned even more from working in my community. I worked in a community center in Binghampton, where I taught English to refugee immigrants. During my years as a student, I worked as a housekeeper, a server, a bookstore customer service representative, a record store clerk, and a receptionist. These different roles taught me the value of hard work and perseverance.
I am excited to live in Los Angeles, where my father grew up since his family immigrated from Hong Kong. I love learning about people's stories--where their family comes from, and the things and people that they love. I can't wait to learn all about you/ your student, and all that we will do together.
Here are some quotes by authors that I love:
“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”
― Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood
"Every writer I know has trouble writing."
― Joseph Heller, author of Catch 22
“But if these years have taught me anything it is this: you can never run away. Not ever. The only way out is in.”
“You can't regret the life you didn't lead.”
― Junot Díaz, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
